I've spent a lot of time on YouTube watching videos from people who are sewing to sell. I wanted to know what fabric-based goods people are making and selling - the styles, fabrics, etc.
I'm seeing common products being made - scrunchies, zippered pouches, and ipad covers. No surprise as these are easy to sew, are functional products, and people buy them. The thing that did surprise is that so many of these small business makers are all creating in the same aesthetic - pink & cutesy.
Lots of pinks and pastels, small scale floral prints, ginghams, etc.
I see an opportunity here to bring something new to the market with my core aesthetic which is more colorful, high contrast, textural designs. I can see it in my head. Now I just need to make a few samples and test to see if there is a market for it.
