First Products in the Shop
Share
In the process of unpacking and organizing my studio, I found that I had some feather brooches I made before the move that I never finished. I decided these would be the first products in the new shop.
One of my earlier business ideas was millinery or hat making. I first starting working with feathers using them to adorn hats. Sometimes I even made hats that were buckram frames covered with feathers.

Most of these hats were sold to the church ladies. For several years, I setup a booth at the COGIC Convocation held in Memphis each November. Most of my hats were fabric-based and I would sew them on the spot. The ladies loved the idea of ordering a custom hat and having it made for them. #memories
I don't know when I first got the idea to use feathers to create a brooch that could be work to upstyle a jacket, sweater, or dress. I'm a brooch girlie so I loved the idea of having something different than a silk flower or jewelry brooch to wear to accent my outfit. Some designs have a vintage look about them and others are colorful and bold.
I have over 20 different designs that are in various stages of completion. I designed single and double feather brooches which are larger and allow me to create color stories with them.

I'll be listing these over the next few weeks as the first handmade products in my new shop. Each of these pieces are OOAK = one of a kind. I don't intend to make anymore. Actually, I don't think I have any more feathers left.
They will come beautifully packaged in a kraft box with clear cover which is the best way to store them when they aren't being worn.
Have a look at them and let me know what you think. View the collection here.
